Here are some photos that I took recently. These were from a cherry blossom tree in front of my neighbor's house.
We don't yet know WHERE the hats will be going, but we do know that they will be given to children with cancer. There were nine volunteers (and a teacher who helped those who were new to knitting and crocheting), and I was the only who didn't need a loom (a circular frame). However, it was actually more time-consuming to make a hat free-hand style. I made a baby hat, but I made it halfway when we were done by the end of two hours! I think I will have to go back next week to finish what I started as I don't think the teacher will finish it and I'm the only person who can make a hat free hand.

Ronald McDonald HouseI have to start making an effort to pay more attention to this blog for my personal photography. I feel so sad that I've abandoned it!

Anyway, I recently volunteered at the O.C. Ronald McDonald House with the Everything Under The Sun Is Charitable of OC (volunteering meetup group) and we made an Italian meals for the CHOC (Children's Hospital of Orange County) patients and families.

The OC Ronald McDonald House allows CHOC patients and familes to have a place to live when they're unable to go home for various reasons. This house was created so families didn't have to sleep on the couch/floor in the hospital while their family member(s) get treatment at the hospital. There are 40 rooms, each room can hold up to four people, so the house can host up to 80 people at one time. Sometimes patients/families come from out of state and even from othe countries to stay here for their family member!
I was inspired by my friend who liked creating them for her travel photos. Although I had to use a different photo editing software than my friend, I was able to find a tutorial video on how to create one. It was easy to follow and easy to create a photo collage. I was so excited when I finally learned and created one!

The first collage has images of my dog. Actually, this wasn't the first one that I made, however, the first one did have images of my dog and I thought that this one was better.

The second photo collage I made, I used images from when I visited Kogi BBQ food truck in Pomona while they were feeding their fans. I'm enjoying the fact that I can create photo collages now, but I hope the novelty doesn't wear off anytime soon.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7334755318793634090.post-72254089025161732592011-07-07T17:45:00.000-07:002011-07-07T17:45:23.497-07:00Fireworks Fourth Of July 2011
I saw a firework show on Fourth Of July at Diamond Bar High School. I usually see the fireworks closer to home, but the city decided to make some budget cuts and the fireworks show wasn't in the budget. So I had to go to Diamond Bar just to see it.

The photo here isn't the finale of the show. I was only able to watch three bands perform because that was all the time that I had, but I didn't photograph one of the bands.

This was State The Obvious. The singer was also my friend, so I was naturally incline to be at the event to show support for his band. This was my second show that I went to where I got to see them perform. The first time was a few months ago at Chain Reaction. As usual, they put on a great performance with lots of energy and they got first place. Since this wasn't the first time that I saw State The Obvious perform, surely I will put up more photos from future shows/performances for them.

This was Dihverscity. I didn't know of them before, but they also put on a great performance with lots of energy. They also got second place in the battle!

Want to see more? Click here to view. All the bands at this event love to play music. I thought that it was cute that the birthday guest got a had to temporarily wear while being sang to.

Also on a very completely different note, I have done several charity photo sessions since March and I have one more session left to do. The total contributions donated to Red Cross to benefit the Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Relief was $400. That doesn't sound very much, but hopefully, it's enough to help the Japanese people get back on their feet and rebuild Japan.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0Beverly Hills, CA, USA34.0736204 -118.400356334.043737400000005 -118.4278633 34.1035034 -118.3728493tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7334755318793634090.post-4693638006813382572011-03-23T15:14:00.000-07:002011-03-23T15:14:08.407-07:00365 Day Project

I attempted a 365 Day Project before. I got this idea from a photographer friend who said that charity work was worth copying. I'm offering 30 minute portrait sessions to those who donate $25 to Red Cross to benefit the Japan Earthquake Relief. Sessions include photo CD with 10 to 15 digital images and one 8x10 print. Must book by March 31, 2011 and sessions completed within 30 days. Street Photography meetup group to photograph the Tibetan Protest which was held at the Federal Building in Westwood, Ca. I really wanted to get into street photography for a long time, but I rarely ever go to protests of any kind or do any street photography in general because I didn't have anyone to go with me and I was concerned about my own safety. Being with a group of photographers made me feel better and it also helped that peaceful protesters, especially Tibetans, were generally ok with photography.

Basically the protest was about human rights for the Tibetans. China believed that Tibet was part of China to which it never was, so China invaded and brutally oppressed the people of Tibet. Between March 10 to March 19 in 1959 was when the Tibetans protested against China. The protest was held today, March 10, because it marked the 52nd anniversary of the Tibetan Uprising.
Sometimes they would hold protests at the Chinese Council to get their point across, but the location wasn't populated enough, so it was hard for them to bring awareness to the public. They usually held protests at the Federal Building in Westwood. The Federal Building and its employees had nothing to do with the conflict between Tibet and China, but it was a major location with high traffic. After the protest, they held a "candlelight vigil" where they did their prayers, and sang the Tibetan National Anthem. There are 200 Tibetans in Southern California. About forty members of the Tibetan Association of Southern California and Friends of Tibetans were at this protest.
Being at the protest with the meetup group, was a great oppportunity for me to work on my photojournalistic skills. If I continue going to a few more events with the group, I hope to improve. Hiking meetup group. This was my first hike with any meetup group...or any group in general. We went on the scenic Ben Overturff Trail and we hiked seven miles round trip. We had a small group of people during this hike and I enjoyed it. The difficultly level of this hike was moderate 6/10. As you know, I am a runner who runs half marathons and just recently completed a 10K race just two weeks ago! While I'm in decent shape for running, walking and hiking were a totally different ball game! Luckily being a long distance runner has actually helped a lot! We had great weather (nice, cool, and sunny) and it was a great work out. In fact, I have sore leg muscles from this hike because of the level of difficulty! Did you know that going down steep declines is just as difficult as going up steep inclines? You need a lot of control so you don't trip on anything and fall. I had a great experience with the group and I hope to plan more hikes in the future. Click here to view more photos.
While we're on the subject of photography, I recently attended a mini photography workshop at the Irvine Park in Orange, CA. It was quite nice. Click here to see an update with photos.
After the mini photography workshop, we immediately had an O.C. smug mug meeting in the Outdoor Education Center in Irvine Park. It was very, very educational and I was happy to leave the meeting, knowing that I learned something. Click here for an update.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7334755318793634090.post-75846440794875926322011-02-15T15:56:00.000-08:002011-02-15T15:56:45.459-08:00Firecracker 10K Race - February 2011

This year, I decided that I wanted to run the Firecracker 10K race. I spent a full day with them and my grandma (who lives locally) sightseeing yesterday. We went to the Santa Monica pier, Pink's Hotdog (lunch), Olvera Street and the L.A. Union Station. It was a tiring, long day, but it was fun. Now I realize how much work it takes to entertain out of town guests.

L.A. Union Station has an architecture that I enjoy looking at. There were less people there yesterday compared to the last time that I was there. The main security officer warned me to keep my camera close and tight. While nothing had happened, it was better to be safe than lose something so expensive as there were always a lot of homeless people sleeping in the chairs in the main corridors.
I was excited to have finally found and seen this hotel in real life! It appeared on "Ghost Adventures" as one of the haunted locations. I wanted to go inside to see if it was really haunted, but since I didn't have permission to enter, I could only look from the outside. I took some pictures through the windows, just to see if anything would appear, but of course, nothing came up in the photos.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7334755318793634090.post-80213005016797543832011-01-01T10:47:00.000-08:002011-01-01T11:54:18.071-08:00Bring In The New Year - 2011

In fact, I wanted to skip the whole month of December during the Thanksgiving weekend because I had so many parties to attend just for the month of December and I was overwhelmed by the thought and amount of food.

A few weeks ago, my friend hosted a birthday party. It was originally for her birthday, but she decided to have a party to celebrate her birthday with mine because my birthday was five days after hers.

I attended a holiday party for my karate class last weekend. Little did I know that there were no classes in session and the campus was empty with no students anywhere!

The classes started the Fall session last week and I was eager to visit the campus to take photos of any random student there. I had the intentions to do the 100 Strangers Project in relation to my 365 Day Project and ask a random student for a photo, however, I got distracted by the food booths that gave away free ice cream, hotdogs, sodas and chips. I wasn't a student at this college and they didn't ask for student ID, so I got free food. Many people said that I looked like 21 to 23 years old, so it was easy for me to pass as a young college student.

I did take photos of the students that were everywhere, having lunch and hanging out with their friends while eating free hotdogs, chips and sodas, but the best part was when I saw my friend Joy who was on her way to a meeting with her counselor about her classes and career path. She was a student here. She was also not a stranger to me as we knew each other from karate training.
This place is a facility that shelters children in Orange County who were victims of abuse, neglect and abandonment. Many times, the children do get released back to their parents after they finished the programs that they are required to take. Sometimes and unfortunately, the children never do get return to their parents for some unforseen reasons.

We, the volunteers, came with snacks and games, and we played with children between the ages 11 - 14 for two hours. This was my first time volunteering at this facility, so it was an interesting experience. Most of the children seemed to enjoy painting and crafty things.
Or I'm just a weird and crazy person.

I went to a cupcake showdown - a cupcake competition type event - a few days ago. Originally I went there just to take pictures and eat some cupcakes, forgetting that I could actually network and do business with the cupcake makers/designers/bakers that were there. Oh Sue Sweet was one of the bakeries/cupcake makers who "reminded" me about networking. She saw a few people (including me) taking pictures of her cupcakes on her table, told us to take some cupcakes because they were free and mentioned that she was a new business/entrepreneur person. That got me all curious and we briefly talked about this whole new business thing. We exchanged contact information and business cards because she needed pictures for her business and I know that she would have clients who would need a photographer for events (birthdays, weddings, etc). She doesn't have a website yet, but she does have a fan page on facebook! Please show some support!
All cupcakes from Oh Sue Sweet with winning cupcake called Ube Macapuno Cupcakes (pictured with white frosting)

By the way, I only tried three mini cupcakes (all of which belonged to Oh Sue Sweet). The other cupcake makers/designers/bakers were required to sign a vote card from all the guests that attended, so that the guests could taste the cupcakes. Vote cards basically allowed the guests to vote for their favorite cupcakes. I never picked up a vote card so I didn't taste any cupcakes from the other bakers, but I was ok with that because I didn't want to get sick with sugar overload, even from trying eight more different cupcakes. Just being surrounded by the amount of cupcakes made me go into a sugar overload. I also got chili cheese fries that was flavored in beer with a hint of chocolate from Frysmith (food truck). It was ok, but perhaps, I should try their food again when I'm not in a sugar coma.

Now that I'm no longer suffering from sugar overload (from looking at cupcake photos for editing), I should go contact the other cupcake bakers/makers and email photos to them.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7334755318793634090.post-37880442500834469592010-09-19T18:54:00.000-07:002010-09-19T18:54:51.929-07:00End Of The SummerOn Friday, I went to a pool party for my friend, Brandon, from Karate training. He is currently a student at California State Polytechnic University Pomona and he starts fall classes tomorrow. There weren't that many people who showed up for the party, mainly because Brandon invited friends two days before the party, and it was also on a weekday. I had fun regardless of how many people were there because Brandon and I rarely ever hang out and do something fun outside of Karate training.

I went to a barbecue party this afternoon. It was a Speed Syndicate Racing Annual BBQ at Friendship Park in San Pedro, CA. I hung out with Q and Yoko, and made a few new friends. It's very rare that I get to hang out with Q and Yoko, perhaps once a year or every other year? Q is also a photographer and enjoys photographing auto racing, particularly import cars. You can visit his website here.

She actually stopped going to class because she is carrying a child, but her eleven year old daughter, high school age niece and college age nephew are all still going to Karate class. The nephew did not go to the baby shower, but the niece and daughter were there. I had a nice time there, however, I wished I had a better lens for indoor and low lighting uses to take photos. Some of the pictures I took, were good, and many were blurry, but they could have been better with a lens that was better for low lighting.
